Rediscover Northampton's foodie gems this August

Rediscover northampton

Let’s join together and support the businesses that make Northampton special. From independent cafes and market traders to greengrocers and supermarkets, Northampton businesses supported us throughout lockdown, and now it’s our turn to support them.

Our town adapted to the situation as it changed, seamlessly transitioning from restaurants and coffee shops to takeaways, delis and foodbanks, keeping our shelves stocked and our spirits lifted.

Over 200 businesses in and around Northampton are participating in the government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme, where you can get half price food and non-alcoholic drinks (up to a value of £10 per person), if you dine-in at participating restaurants, pubs, cafes, hotels and many more every Monday to Wednesday throughout August.

Seach the Northampton Town Centre BID's handy directory to discover the hundreds of  local businesses participating in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme.

With so much choice, we’ve explored some of our favourite local haunts.

The Lamplighter
Did you know that The Lamplighter has been a pub since 1877? Originally named the Overstone Arms, it was a magnet for community groups and societies back in the 1800s. 143 years later, and The Lamplighter is still at the heart of the Northampton community. As Andy on Facebook puts it, ‘We all need a local and your local needs you. Great food and beer, amazing staff.’ With awards for food and drink and a reputation for brilliant live music, The Lamplighter is clearly a Northampton success story. Book a table or grab a sunny spot in the courtyard and enjoy delicious pub classics from 4pm to 9pm – we’ll take a pint of local ale with our burger please.

Saffron Curry House
An institution in Northampton, Saffron is fully open for business again after supporting the local community throughout the last four months. Throughout lockdown, Saffron not only offered 50% discount for NHS workers, but also donated free meals to the most vulnerable in our community, and celebrated two local keyworkers who have gone above and beyond with free curry for a year. Named ‘the best curry house in Northampton’ by one Tripadvisor reviewer, Saffron is definitely one of the most generous too! Whether you like tandoori, biryani or Bangladeshi specialities, let’s show our support for Saffron this August.

Dreams Coffee Lounge
More that just a coffee shop, Dreams Coffee Lounge on St Giles Street is participating in the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, after celebrating their third birthday in February.
The team have adapted to the changing situation, with significant measures in place to keep staff and customers safe. Whether you’re looking to catch up with a friend over coffee and cake, or enjoy a family breakfast out over the summer holidays, you can do so at Dreams Coffee Lounge with peace of mind. Head down to Dreams from 10am to 2pm Monday to Wednesday to make the most of the government scheme. Save us a scone with the full works.

Bread and Pullet
Fed up of thinking what to cook for dinner? Bread and Pullet are back with all your tapas favourites. The restaurant has been keeping locals going, from Harry Potter themed afternoon tea, to discounts on takeaways for all NHS workers, and now their doors are open again from Tuesday to Saturday. Bookings are essential and Bread and Pullet will be taking a £5 deposit for every diner to support their business, ‘We cannot afford to have no-shows. To get through this we all need to respect those who welcome guests into their newly set out restaurants, who love nothing more than seeing a contented full-belly smile and helping to create memories....’. We’ll be back for the memories, and the dirty fries!

Market Tavern
A cosy pub with fresh local food and a sunshine bathed beer garden, all in the heart of Northampton – what more could you want?
Whilst Market Tavern had to close its doors during lockdown, that didn’t stop their community spirit. They hosted a weekly pub quiz online to keep customers spirits high. Now they’re back open (with a one-way system and sanitising points of course), Market Tavern are looking forward to welcoming back visitors, advising that booking is recommended in order to avoid disappointment due to reduced capacity. We’ll be keeping an eye out for the new cocktail menu that’s coming soon!

Where will you be heading to first? Whichever business you choose to support, please remember to be patient and kind to staff and other customers as businesses work hard to adapt to the new normal, as slight delays may occur as new policies are trialled.
